SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Music at Bunker Hill (MaBH) created a scholarship program in 2025 funded by patron donations. In its first year of operation, five area music students have received weekly private music lessons and the Washington Township High School Jazz Band program was reinstated for the current school year. This support was made based on the financial need of motivated student musicians and programs.

This program was made possible by donations from patrons. Because of their generosity, MaBH has invested $11,392 in future generations of musicians in the first year of the scholarship program.

Washington Township High School Band Director Calvin Spencer said:

“From the bottom of my heart, I want to personally thank you for the donation that Music at Bunker Hill has provided to the Washington Township High School to save the Jazz Program. I am so thankful to the Board Members for seeing the importance of Music Education and the Jazz Program at Washington Township High School.”

One parent has commented:

“…I feel the lessons are amazing and such a very generous gift. She is committed and excited to go every week. Her confidence continues to grow as she practices and plays, opening doors to other band groups and classes for her to further make her mark in the band world.”

The aforementioned scholarship student comments: “These last 3 weeks of tuba lessons have given me a sense of confidence I’ve never felt before. Learning to create a fuller sound and better breathing technique gave a feeling of satisfaction while playing. I now feel more appreciated in the groups and bands I play in, as I am now adding more stability and sound to the music. These lessons have truly helped me achieve skills I didn’t have the confidence for.”

Her instructor adds “Just checking in. [Student] is doing very well with lessons. She seems well committed and what she practices has been coming in prepared! I’ve told her she’s at a point where she’s really not doing anything wrong, but there is a lot to learn so what she puts into the tuba she’s going [to] get back.”

Thanks to our generous donors, Music at Bunker Hill has made a real impact on area music students in the first year of our scholarship program. The Board of Directors plans to continue this program in future years.
